(Each brand extension Twitter Tip – “Twip” - is written as a Tweet. Each is 140 characters or less to illustrate that short efficiently communicated words can still deliver meaningful messages.)
1. Can you extend a brand effectively w 140 characters? Yes! Focus on the important. Impact short-attn-spanned-people with a burst of clarity. [139] 2. Twitter is hot – a Time Magazine cover story! Social media overall is hot. Embrace. Evolve. And truly connect your biz w/ the community. [139] 3. Traditional media, used consistently and clearly, SETS your brand. Social media like Twitter PERSONALIZES it. Gives your company a face. [136] 4. Set your Twitter account with a picture, not your logo. People want to talk to YOU. Not to your sign. Your face makes your @name real. [134]
6. Don’t turn social conversations into sales calls. Turns off your friends. Contribute! As Chris Brogan blogged, “Bring wine to the picnic.” [138] 7. Grasp Twitter reciprocity. For every 1 Tweet about you, do 10-12 more Tweets referring to others. Listening is appreciated. It’s powerful. [138] 8. Be regular enough that you’re visible. Being a wall-flower at an event is not networking. Neither is just being on Twitter w/o Tweeting. [136] 9. Use TwitterSearch to monitor what’s being said about your category, your competition. And, most importantly, about you! [119] 10. Encounter a negative Tweet or complaint? Address immediately. Diffuse anger. Maybe turn to a positive. Makes a statement to others watching. [140] 11. Offer a few Twitter-only specials. Rewards your followers. And a really good special is often Re-Tweeted. Followers can help grow your mkt! [139] 12. Be open, transparent. Willing to seek ideas, suggestions, even collaboration. Contributors feel a sense of ownership. Loyalty is contagious. [140] 13. Connect by simply being human. Yes, your goal is to sell stuff. But by also sharing info, interests, & slices of life you become REAL. [134] Isn’t it amazing what can be communicated in 140 or less? Being forced to economize words can be strong. Can you comment in 140 or less? [136] - Steve Photo credit: trekkyandy |
